DISC – Design INNOVATIONS FOR SENIOR CARE

Every generation must etch their own footprints: where they are headed, what their priorities are and how they choose to guide the generations that follow. DISC is a pioneering initiative to enable a conversation between generations: fostering a conduit for the flow of ideas and values between Millennials (the workforce of tomorrow), Seniors and service providers from the industry. DISC aims to reshape the narrative around ‘Age’ from one of debilitation and burden, to reflect the reality of self-sufficient, enabled and enfranchised senior citizens being active in identifying their altering needs and getting those needs serviced by the right partner.

The branding around Gen-X, Gen-Y, Millennials and other generational labels reflects a certain speed, ability and agency that is missing when we speak of Seniors: but this does not accurately capture the Seniors of today. They are increasingly on the same technological and media landscape that the youngest generation are.. be it watching Netflix or Amazon Prime, taking an Uber to travel, booking show tickets online, paying someone through PayTM.. It’s time to mind the gap – it’s a lot lesser than it used to be!

We live in a world of constant change; a world where the pace of change itself is exponential. Dynamic forces of technology, design and communication are constantly reshaping how different demographics interact with our everyday physical and virtual environments. DISC seeks to recognize the rapidly changing way Seniors are coopting this digital, enabled life and call upon the shapers of these technologies to engage in an active conversation with their newly loyal, Seniors demographic.

DISC is our inquiry into the AGE called 60 : to re-look, re-examine and re-imagine the impact of the connected digital age on the Seniors of today.

SENIORS OF TODAY

“At 63, I’ve finally planned my first ever solo trip…all the way to Australia! So far I’ve been to 20 countries, the last one being Vietnam, and that’s where I got the traveller’s hat-the hat that fits me the best!”

All her life she wore multiple hats, juggled through work and raised her kids. Post retirement, she reconnected with her colleagues and formed a group and planned a trip with them. Since then, they’ve not stopped!
